Albany fashion designer turning heads in NYC

This is a very busy week for designer Sherry Ellis of Honey B's Boutiques. The Albany-native has been invited to Fashion Week in New York City as an up-and-coming designer.

She hasn't allowed all that this great opportunity entails to sink in- because she's been so busy finishing up her designs.

She says she was never a girly-girl, but rather a tomboy.

Around 18, she started sewing with a cousin. From there, she attended Austin Beauty School. To pay the bills, she did a number of non-fashion jobs but a couple of years ago, she went back to what she loved.

Earlier in the year, she saw a call for designers on social media and sent a video of her work. She was then chosen for Rise NYFW, an independent fashion production group with a goal of not only showcasing new talent, but mentoring the new designers, so they don't get lost in this highly competitive industry.
