12-year-old child arrested following Amsterdam school threat

A 12-year-old Amsterdam student is under arrest, accused of threatening to shoot people at school.

The sheriff’s department says the social media threat was reported early Monday morning.

The threat posted to a social media account named three specific people at Lynch Literary Academy. The suspect was one of those people, which police think was an attempt to avoid being caught.

Investigators say the suspect later admitted to writing the messages.

Police do not think the threat was credible.

The student is now charged with making a terroristic threat.
