Schools turn to students to help fill employment shortages

As schools face widespread employment shortages, some districts are turning to students to fill the vacant positions.

These work-programs can provide students with class credit and valuable working experience.

For example, a high school senior in South Carolina is working in her school’s cafeteria to help prepare breakfast, lunch, and after-school snacks. In exchange, she gets valuable experience and class credit.

A neighboring South Carolina school district that is facing a bus driver shortage created an apprenticeship program. The program puts interested seniors on a path to a job once they graduate.

At a school in Minnesota, some students are being hired as part-time janitors.
