Albany school superintendent warns of troubling new TikTok trend

There’s another outrageous TikTok challenge causing headaches for school employees and administrators around the country.

If you can believe it, this one is encouraging students to assault teachers and other students.

At least one area district is trying to get ahead of it and let parents know this nonsense won’t be tolerated.

NewsChannel 13 told you recently how districts in the Capital Region were dealing with "Devious Licks," a TikTok challenge encouraging students to vandalize their schools. Just as it started quieting down, social media instigators are now telling students to record themselves slapping teachers.

"This is a very serious matter for our schools, for our employees, and for the safety and well-being of our students, so we take this very seriously," said Albany Schools Superintendent Kaweeda Adams.

She issued a letter this week advising parents that students participating in these challenges – and there are others, will be dealt with accordingly.

"Exposing themselves, to assaulting others to vandalism and these things number one, it’s not lawful, but also it’s just not safe," said Adams.

NewsChannel 13 checked with about 10 area districts Friday, and none reported anything to do with the slapping challenge, but there is still the occasional vandalism.
