A Waterford family is donating their tree for it to be displayed at the Empire State Plaza this holiday season.

When the Reesce family bought their home about six months ago, they immediately noticed a 40-foot tall blue spruce towering over their yard.

With the tree being so close to the house, they decided it was time for it to go to a new home. They heard the State Office of General Services was looking for two donated trees to decorate the Empire State Plaza and East Capitol Park, and thought it would be the perfect opportunity.

The majestic blue spruce was chosen out of about 30 trees to be placed on the Empire State Plaza outside the Capitol, and it took a brigade of trucks and crews to get it cut down.

A community tree lighting ceremony will take place on December 5.

Hear the family talk about how they hope their tree brings joy to others, by watching the video of Sam Hesler’s story.
