SCHENECTADY – Brown School in Schenectady honored veterans ahead of Thursday’s Veterans Day holiday. Students at the private school say they look forward to the school’s assembly every year.

Art was hung up throughout the gymnasium.

They had veterans from nearly every military branch stand to be recognized.

It started with the Pledge of Allegiance and Star-Spangled Banner.

"It’s really important because the veterans that have served and possibly died and who are here today still, they’re memorialized in a really good way," said eighth grader Gavin Schmid.

One of the veterans who attends the ceremony every year lost his son in the line of duty in 2006. Learn about what all of this means to him by watching the video of Emily De Vito’s story.
