Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand held a virtual press conference Wednesday, urging the Biden administration to swiftly implement debt relief to farmers.
The recently passed “Inflation Reduction Act” includes $3.1 billion in economic relief for struggling farms.
However, the details of the plan are still being worked out
Gillibrand wants the USDA to base their eligibility requirements on a bill she introduced last year called “Relief for America’s Small Farmers Act.”
The bill defines eligible borrowers as those who had an average annual adjusted gross income of $300,000 or less for the previous five years. She’s urging the Biden administration to act quickly.
