SCHENECTADY – There’s no need for lawn mowers at Vale Cemetery in Schenectady.

The goats and sheep were back Thursday morning.

The animals from SUNY Cobleskill are brought to the cemetery to graze, replacing gas or diesel mowing.

The cemetery has a natural burial area designed to minimize environmental damage by prohibiting use of steel, or exotic wood caskets.

No herbicides or pesticides are used in that area.

The goal is to lower carbon footprints as much as possible.

At the end of the day, the goats and sheep accomplished the mission perfectly.
