Troy city leaders are working to reduce the city’s speed limit with bipartisan support.
Governor Hochul recently signed a law that allows municipalities to reduce speed limits to 25 miles per hour in cities and to 15 miles per hour in school zones.
The lower speed limits are supposed to prevent traffic related fatalities.
Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello says the lower speed limit will undoubtedly make everyone feel safer. She also mentioned that this will need enforcement from local police because, as it stands now, people are constantly driving too fast in the city.
Mantello described how individuals “barrow down” Troy roads 10 to 15 miles faster than posted speeds. Furthermore, She stated how this can be a “…real public safety nightmare.” unless properly addressed.
