You can expect to see some changes very soon when you order food to go.

New York State adopted one of the strongest bans this year on containers made from polystyrene foam. It is used in making single-use, to-go containers, beverage cups, or loose packaging peanuts.

Styrofoam is made from petroleum, takes up space in landfills, and cannot be recycled. The foam packaging is one of the top materials found in litter, causing negative impacts to wildlife.

The ban takes effect Jan 1.
