The state education commissioner says the Cambridge School District has to drop its Indians nickname and imagery by July.
The commissioner reversed a decision by the school board to reinstate the nickname, which had been retired last June.
Eight parents in the district petitioned the commissioner, and she agreed with them, saying the board didn’t sufficiently explain its reasoning for reinstating the controversial name.
The board released a statement saying it’s disappointed with the decision and will thoughtfully review it to determine how to proceed.
