TROY – It’s a big day for RPI.
The college was swearing in its new president on Thursday.
Dr. Martin Schmidt took office as president on July 1, replacing Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, who served as president for 23 years.
Schmidt was previously the provost at MIT in Cambridge.
He will now be the 19th president of the college he received his bachelor’s degree from in 1981, more than 41 years ago.
