Schodack Amazon workers rally for unionization

SCHODACK – Workers hoping to unionize at the massive Amazon warehouse in Schodack received a huge boost in the arm on Monday. Sen. Kristen Gillibrand – one of the nation’s leading backers of labor unions – came to their rally.

Gillibrand was received warmly and enthusiastically. The main theme of her message was fairness for American workers.

She was one of many people at the rally, which featured several hundred political, religious, and labor leaders from across the Capital Region.

There are nearly 1,000 workers on the payroll in Schodack. Many of them feel they’re not being paid a fair wage, many believe their benefits aren’t up to what they expect and many believe they’re being mistreated by the company.

Workers in Schodack filed with the National Labor Relations Board in August to form a union.
Voting will begin the on Wednesday.
