It was a sea of pink in the city of Albany today, as thousands of people walked in the hope of bringing an end to breast cancer.
The annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk kicked off this morning in Washington Park.
All of the money raised goes to patient care and breast cancer research at the American Cancer Society.
Walkers and survivors say it’s also just as important to raise awareness. Breast cancer survivors Kearston Fairbank and Kelsey Thomas told us that “early detection is really the key” in combatting the disease.
According to the American Breast Cancer, One in eight women will fight breast cancer in their lifetime. Additionally, more than 17,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in New York State.
