The case against Zymiere Walton, 20, is moving from Troy City Court to Rensselaer County Court.
Investigators say the stabbing was part of a domestic fight.
Walton was previously arraigned in Troy City Court to face charges that include attempted murder.
Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly says Walton stabbed a woman multiple times with what appears to be a kitchen knife.
Donnelly says Walton and the victim were both HVCC students. She says they were walking to the victim’s car when they got into an argument. The district attorney says once inside the car, Walton stabbed the victim. He is accused of leaving the victim and driving off with her car.
Walton’s defense attorney claims self-defense, saying his client was attacked first. He went on to say that Walton was an honor roll student with no prior criminal history.
