Shen students get used to school without masks

CLIFTON PARK – There was extra energy in the halls of Shenendehowa High School Friday, and not just because the weekend was near.
Students were learning in harmony with each other, those choosing to wear masks, and those comfortable without one.

Principal Ron Agostinoni says Wednesday, March 2, the first day masks were optional in schools, about 80% of students showed up with no mask on. Two days later, that number is closer to 90%.

It’s making a difference. Students are already more engaged, seeing friends’ faces, their teachers’ faces – for the first time inside school all year.

Agostinoni says he checked in with all the counselors at the school. So far, no students have reached out struggling with the mask change.

NewsChannel 13 has reported on some of the confusion school leaders had after the governor’s Sunday announcement lifting the school mask rule. We asked the Shen superintendent how things went this time.
