Seven veterans received their high school diplomas this week, decades after they went to war.
And, three veterans were awarded medals and accolades for their service.
A ceremony was held at the American Legion in Green Island to recognize their bravery and sacrifice.
The veterans who were honored with high school diplomas fought in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War, never meeting requirements for graduation.
There were also awards given out during the ceremony, including the New York State Liberty Medal.
The veterans received their high school diplomas through a state sponsored program called operation recognition.
It allows any New York State resident who was honorably discharged to receive their diploma.
