SCHENECTADY – Ash Wednesday is the start of the 40-day season of lent leading up to Easter. This year, it fell on March 2.

Many Christians make a public display of their faith by receiving an ash cross on their forehead.

Churches also hold special services. The popular "Ashes to Go" was back in Schenectady.

A reverend in Rotterdam started the program five years ago, but had to take a break the last two years because of the pandemic.
