Montgomery County animal abuse suspects due in court

Two women from Montgomery County facing animal abuse charges are due in court Monday afternoon.

44-year-old Kelly Simpson and 19-year-old Cassandra Simpson were arrested after state police searched their house in the town of Root and seized five cats and a dog.

Police say the animals were in obvious need of veterinary care and were turned over to an animal rescue organization.

The women had previously surrendered 43 cats, five of which were in need of veterinary care. That case is still under investigation.
