The Troy Police Department along with other agencies have worked together to collect surplus police gear. So far, they have nearly 40 police vests, body armor once worn by police officers.
The departments get new gear every few years, which means the older gear is no longer needed.
Troy Police Chief Dan DeWolf has been instrumental in gathering this, also donating 15 Kevlar helmets.
It’s all going to the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Troy.
The priest there, Father Vasyl Dovgan, is now looking for monetary donations to ship the heavy equipment to Ukraine, hoping to protect soldiers and citizens in the war.
Monetary donations can go right to the church.
