NewsChannel 13 has learned of a new policy for the Saratoga Springs Police Department.
According to information we have obtained, any officer who commits adultery is subject to dismissal from employment.
Adultery is a crime in New York state and according to the new policy, engaging in criminal conduct calls into question an officer’s credibility as a witness, it potentially jeopardizes prosecutions of offenders and it has a corrosive effect on the morale and reputation of all members of the service whether uniformed or civilian.
NewsChannel 13 plans to investigate if other police departments have a similar policy.
