The Albany Police Department say they now have a suspect in custody after a chase that led to a fatal crash.
According to police, they approached a vehicle driven by Caezare Ebron Friday night that was stopped near the area of Central Avenue and North Lake Avenue. They say that Ebron was asleep at the wheel.
Police stated when they approached the vehicle, Ebron fled towards Bradford St. and Ontario St. As a result, he ran through a stop sign and into another vehicle traveling south on Ontario St.
Kyreem Softleigh of Albany, one of the 3 occupants in the vehicle hit by Ebron, was killed due to the collision. The two other passengers were treated for non-life threatening injuries and transported to Albany Medical Center.
After the crash, police stated that Ebron tried to flee again on foot but was quickly captured.
Ebron faces multiple charges, including Unlicensed Operator, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Auto Accident, Running a Stop Sign, speeding, and operating without an ignition interlock device required after a DWI arrest in April of 2021 in Syracuse.
Ebron is currently being evaluated for injuries sustained during the crash and is scheduled to be arraigned at Albany City Court.
Police say that the investigation into the crash is still ongoing at this time.
