NY Air National Guard appoints first female commander
The first female officer has been appointed to command the New York Air National Guard.
Brig. Gen. Denise Donnell of Clifton Park took over the 5,900 member aerial militia arm of the state’s National Guard from Maj. Gen. Timothy LaBarge.
Donnell served in the Navy from 1993 to 2002 and is a command pilot with more than 4,400 flight hours and 280 hours of combat.
She called her new role "a tremendous honor."
