With those high temperatures on the way, you may be looking for a place to cool down this weekend.
To help people stay cool in the sweltering heat, cooling centers and splash pads are getting ready to open.
There were a couple of kids enjoying the splash pads at Geneva Pompey Park Friday evening. The city of Troy has six locations where people can go to enjoy the splash pads over the weekend. John Salka, the Troy communications director, says the city will also have three cooling centers as well.
The Troy fire department will be running the cooling centers off of the fire hydrants. Salka says they usually activate their splash pads towards the end of may or the beginning of June. However, because of the extreme heat he said they wanted to activate them earlier.
The city of Albany is planning to open six spray pads at area parks this weekend.
Dr. Robert Brewer is the associate director of emergency medicine at St. Peter’s Hospital. He gave me a couple tips on what you should do in the extreme heat.
He recommends staying inside in an air conditioned buildings. But, he says if you need to go outside, you want to make sure you are staying hydrated. Dr. brewer says if you have chronic illness, you want to be very careful in this heat as well.
