NY healthcare facilities ask state for help dealing with widespread staffing issues

Upstate Democrats and hospital executives say there is a widespread staffing problem in health care facilities across the state.
The healthcare shortages – according to organizers – have one common denominator, and that’s money.
Albany Medical Center CEO Dr. Dennis McKenna says without money, the hospitals can’t provide care to those who need it.
The Iroquois Healthcare Alliance and Albany Med Health System say the state should invest more money in students and overall hospital budgets. They want more grants sent out to schools to encourage students to become a nurse.
McKenna says the state also needs to provide more money in hospitals, so they don’t have to outsource jobs to traveling nurses.
The Iroquois Healthcare Alliance believes that kickstart nursing programs will encourage students to enter the healthcare career and stay in it.
