Police: Search for missing Schenectady teen ongoing three weeks later

Schenectady police held a rare media briefing Thursday on the search for missing Schenectady teen Samantha Humphrey. They say the search is continuing – with a number of agencies helping.

Samantha, 14, went missing Nov. 25, and hasn’t been seen since.

The search has been focused on a four-mile stretch of the Mohawk River — from the Schenectady Stockade down the Rexford Bridge. If Samantha is in the river, authorities believe that is where they will most likely find her.

Once again, multiple police agencies were involved in the search: by air, by land, and by water. Nothing was found.

Schenectady Police Chief Eric Clifford said this case has had a major impact on the community. He says countless man-hours have been utilized, and every possible resource has come to bear in what has been a continuous search.

Clifford confirmed they have surveillance video of Samantha from Riverside Park the night she disappeared. He says she was with a friend. However, he wouldn’t reveal anything else.

Searchers are very much aware of the changing weather conditions, and Clifford stated it will impact the ongoing investigation.

Clifford said police have been in constant contact with Samantha’s family since the search began. He said family, friends, and classmates have all been cooperative.
