Valatie man arrested for firing shotgun in Colonie hotel

Jeffrey T. Rowan, 49, Valatie was arrested by the Colonie Police Department after they said he fired a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun in Hotel Trilogy on Wolf Road Tuesday, May 3. Police said Rowan fired two rounds into the bathroom ceiling of the room he was staying in at around 3:30 a.m.

Another person was in the room at the time of the incident but no one was injured, according to police. Police said the shotgun rounds damaged the ceiling and other fixtures but did not go through the bathroom ceiling into another room.

Rowan is prohibited from possessing a gun due to a valid order of protection and the serial number on the shotgun had been removed, police said. Rowan was charged with:

-1st degree reckless endangerment (felony)

-3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon (felony)

-3rd degree criminal mischief (felony)

-2nd degree criminal contempt (misdemeanor)

Rowan was arraigned in the Town of Colonie and will be supervised by the Albany County Probation Department. Colonie Police said the investigation is ongoing.
