Food pantries report serious need for help as Christmas approaches

A group of dozens of food pantries in the area say expenses have doubled, and need is greater this year.
That’s leaving some pantries worried they won’t be able to serve everyone who needs their help this holiday season.
The Food Pantries is a group of 70 pantries in the region. In that group, 50% of them are worried their funding won’t last through the end of the year.
That means items like diapers, cleaning supplies and other hygiene products are needed. However, it also means they need cash to have the flexibility to pay for things like fuel to get the products out to people.
Learn about the huge amount of money they’ve spent on just gas this year by watching the video of Stella Porter’s story.
You can help by donating at the food bank, donating to The Food Pantries. You can bring food or cash donations to the Food Pantries at 32 Essex Street in Albany on Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon.
