Chevrolet is celebrating Corvette’s 70th birthday with an electrified version of the storied sports car.

And it is the fastest production model yet.

The E-Ray jerks your head back as it goes from zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. It can cover a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds.

The E-Ray is a gas-electric hybrid, the first all-wheel-drive version of the Corvette. The front wheels run on a battery.

It is aimed at affluent buyers who want new technology in the top-line Chevy sports car.

“It’s a pretty elegant solution that a few automakers have taken. And this is going to propel the Corvette to a new set of markets,” said Mark Wakefield, an automotive analyst with AlixPartners.

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray goes on sale this year, with an MSRP of $104,295 for the 1LZ coupe.

Production will take place at General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly facility in Kentucky.

The Corvette debuted debuted in 1953 at Motorama in New York City.
