Ambulance rides more costly in Massachussetts

If you call an ambulance in Massachusetts, it’s going to cost you significantly more than it would in other states. That’s according to a new report from the state’s Health Policy Commission.
Nationwide, commercially insured patients pay an average of $761 for an ambulance trip from a government-owned emergency medical services company.
That’s compared to a $1,578 charge in Massachusetts.
The commission reported in 2017 that nearly half of ambulance trips in Massachusetts resulted in at least one out-of-network claim.
The report did not have a clear answer for why the costs were higher in the bay state.
