A Shenendehowa High School student was caught with an Airsoft BB gun at school on Tuesday morning.
A child told a parent about the possible threat. That parent contacted police, said the district. Several concerned students also went to the school resource officer after hearing something similar.
Students in High School West were held in classrooms while an investigation was done, and the weapon was found.
The district turned the case over to police.
The student will be charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds – a violation – Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo said.
“This event clearly demonstrates the importance of the school resource officer program and the relationships built with students and school staff,” said Zurlo, in a statement. “We will continue to have zero tolerance for this type of behavior and applaud the brave students who brought this to our attention.”
