Pedestrian critical, driver flees

TROY – A Troy man was in critical condition at Albany Medical Center Friday night, the result of a car pedestrian crash late Thursday night in which the driver fled the scene.

The victim was crossing Fifth Avenue near 111th Street in Lansingburgh around 10:40 p.m. when a white SUV traveling northbound slammed into him in the middle of the road, sending the man sliding on the pavement, coming to rest against the curb on the east side of the street.

“I came out and the man was laying on the ground,” said Henrietta Edge, who lives on Fifth Avenue, one house up from 111th Street. “Fire trucks had just got here because I heard the bang and he was hit hard.”

Mrs. Edge says she rushed out of her home just as the driver sped away. She said a woman was behind the wheel, but she couldn’t make out any description and says she couldn’t tell if anyone else was in the car.

For now News Channel 13 is withholding the name of the victim. The gentleman’s daughter tells Dan Levy her father has a fractured skull, a broken wrist, and a broken nose.

She’d also like to see the driver held accountable, which is exactly what Henrietta Edge wants to see.

“I don’t know what they were on or what ever they were scared,” Edge stated, “Step up and say sorry, I didn’t do it, I was scared, I left.”

Friday night, Troy Police continued the investigation, urging anyone who recognizes the car in the surveillance video or who knows something to contact them.
