Gillis’ father: ‘Kaylin was an amazing young lady’

Kaylin Gillis’s dad, Andrew, spoke to NewsChannel 13 on Wednesday for the first time since the shooting that killed his daughter, Kaylin.

He was very emotional and holding back tears the whole time.

Andrew says he’s so thankful for the judges to remand Kevin Monahan – his daughter’s alleged killer – to jail without bail.

Gillis said his daughter was a beautiful person. A lot of people loved her.

Kaylin had hopes and dreams of becoming a marine biologist or veterinarian because she loved animals.

“This man took that away from us,” said the father, as he spoke about Monahan.

Kaylin, her boyfriend – Blake Walsh –and two other friends were in the car going up Monahan’s driveway last Saturday night in Hebron.

The boyfriend told NBC News they were looking for a party, and realized they were in the wrong place.

Blake Walsh was driving and turning around when Monahan allegedly shot at the car twice – one bullet hitting Kaylin.

The dad also spoke about Blake Walsh.

“Kaylin’s boyfriend – Blake – he’s an amazing young man. He wanted to marry my daughter, and I would have loved that.”

He says Blake told him that it was all his fault the night Kaylin was killed.

Dad told him it was not – it’s Monahan’s fault.

“For this man to sit on his porch and fire at a car with no threat is just – it angers me so badly, and I just hope to God he dies in jail,” the father said. “Kaylin’s boyfriend – Blake – he’s an amazing young man. He wanted to marry my daughter, and I would have loved that.”

Dad told reporters he originally did not want to speak to reporters at all, but he says people need to know who his lovely daughter was.

Kaylin has two younger sisters.

Dad says his wife, Angel, is going to have to go through the rest of her life without her baby girl.
