The 20 Thruway employees killed in the line of duty since 1960 were honored on Friday.

It was part of Workers Memorial Day, which honors workers killed on the job.

The New York State Thruway Authority tweeted a photo, saying:

β€œThey were parents, spouses, brothers and sisters, friends and family, who lost their lives while simply doing their jobs.”

The state Department of Transportation also held a ceremony at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse to honor fallen highway workers.
