The attorney general’s office held a community gun buyback with Watervliet, Cohoes, Colonie, Green Island, and Menands police at the Watervliet dome.
The goal was to get illegal guns off the streets and out of the wrong hands.
People could turn in their firearms, no questions asked, and get gift cards in return.
The event in Watervliet was one of several held across New York State Saturday.
All together the AG’s office says nearly 3,000 guns were turned in.
