Warren County, Albany County declare states of emergency over possible migrant surge

Warren County and Albany County are now the latest counties in our area to declare states of emergency over a possible migrant surge.

Warren County said they’re concerned buses of migrants from New York City could be relocated there, Warren County Board of Supervisors Chairman Kevin Geraghty said.

A task force is also looking at options to handle a possible surge.

Meanwhile, Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said he’s worried about possible housing shortages and strain on the county’s support system.

Other counties in our area – including Rensselaer and Saratoga – have declared similar states of emergency.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said she’s asked the federal government to expedite a process which allows migrants to work in the state.
