An underground transformer exploded in Schenectady late Thursday evening.
Both National Grid and the Schenectady Fire Department responded.
The explosion happened because of a leak in an oil reserve tank on the underground transformer, Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy said.
There was no fire and no power outage, said the mayor.
Cleanup work continued Friday for the oil that leaked from the transformer.
