Eager racing fans return to Saratoga Race Course

Thoroughbred fans have been returning to Saratoga Springs for more than 150 years.
Thursday began 40 days of equine excitement that is unparalleled in any other parimutuel paradise anywhere else in the country.
As everyone knows, this racing venue is so popular, fans are lined up for hours before the gates open.
When folks come through the turnstiles, they are often carrying with them folding chairs, picnic baskets, cold drinks, umbrellas and racing programs.
The parade of patrons continues inside the gates where folks will either scout out a prime picnic place or else search for just the right afternoon headquarters for hardcore handicapping.

It seems nearly everyone who walks through the gates, brings with them a basket of optimism.
