NewsChannel 13’s Subrina Dhammi went to Hackett Middle School in Albany, and took part in a 6th grade class, where the teacher gave the background of what Juneteenth is.

The class – filled with 11 and 12 years olds – started first with the Declaration of Independence, and ended with present day – when President Biden made it an official federal holiday last year.

The teacher, Rohan Graham, is actually an English Language Arts teacher. He says he decided to make this lesson part of his curriculum because we all should know about American history.
