Schenectady fire displaces 4 people

Four people were displaced from their Schenectady home after a fire in the Bellevue neighborhood on Monday.

A call came in at around 4:25 p.m. reporting a fire at 562 Ontario St., according to Schenectady Fire Chief Don Mareno. Firefighters arrived on scene about 3 minutes after the call and found heavy fire in front of the building.

Crews immediately worked to knock the fire down and searched the building to make sure everyone was out of the building, including two pets.

One person was treated at the scene for non life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

The fire was out in about 35 minutes, according to Mareno.

The cause is still under investigation, but Mareno said it doesn’t seem suspicious.

There was heavy damage to the front of the house and rear of the first floor and smoke and water damage on the second floor.

The American Red Cross is providing financial aid to three adults and one child for shelter, food and clothing.
