Study: Pandemic hurting mental health of college students
A new study reveals the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the mental health of college students.
Ohio State University researchers conducted return to campus surveys in August 2020 and April 2021.
During this time, depression rates increased from 24% to 28%, and the percentage of students who reported burnout soared from 40 to 71%.
There was also a rise in the use of unhealthy coping mechanisms like eating junk food and alcohol and tobacco use.
However, nearly a quarter of students said they were seeing a counselor in April, up from 13% in August.
