There’s a new push to reduce taxes for volunteer firefighters.

Colonie Town Supervisor Peter Crummey proposed a partial property tax exemption for volunteer firefighters.

The proposal is through a new state law that allows for this.

Crummey hopes this exemption encourages people to become a volunteer firefighter and help out, he said.
