School leaders at Albany City Schools are responding to the death of a 14-year-old boy killed in a crash over the weekend.

A’Mon Willis is being remembered as a bright smiling boy. He was an honor roll student and had just started 9th grade.

He was popular in school and a jokester who loved basketball.

The Tony Clement Center for Education principal and assistant principal sent a joint statement saying:

“The passing of someone we care about can affect us in so many ways. Our student support staff will remain available at school for the children. We ask that everyone remain sensitive and respectful to all who may be impacted by this loss.”

The crash happened Saturday night on I-890 in Colonie.  
A’Mon was riding in a car driven by a 17-year-old, who was driving while under the influence, State Police said.
