McCarthy seeks another term as Schenectady mayor

Gary McCarthy is running for reelection as Schenectady mayor on Tuesday evening.

McCarthy became acting mayor in 2011 when then-Mayor Brian Stratton left to become director of the New York State Canal Corporation. McCarthy was elected as mayor later that year and has served in the position ever since.

His opponent, Matt Nelligan, is the Schenectady Republican Committee Chairman, and a former teacher.

Both men are running against Edward Varno on the Working Families line.
