Police: Brooklyn man led police on a chase, drove onto Uncle Sam Bike Trail

A Brooklyn man is facing multiple charges after a two-county chase that ended after State Police said he drove onto the Uncle Sam Bike Trail and left his vehicle, causing it to roll down the hill and strike a police car.

Melquan L. Jordan, 33, was traveling on state Route 40 in Easton in Washington County at about 8:51 a.m. on Nov. 6 when a trooper attempted to stop him for a traffic violation, police said. Police followed him for 16 miles to the area of Northern Drive in Troy. 

Then, Jordan allegedly drove onto the bikeway and ran off, with the vehicle continuing to roll until it struck the police vehicle and stopped.

Jordan then dropped bags that contained multiple controlled substances including felony weight narcotics and took off. Troopers moved their patrol vehicles in front of Jordan’s to prevent him from getting away in his car, investigators said. 

Jordan initially eluded police but he was picked up at Saugerties Town Court, where he was appearing for an unrelated matter.

Jordan was charged with fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and vehicle and traffic violations. He was arraigned in Troy City Court and sent to Rensselaer County Jail.
