Hudson man killed, Delanson woman critically injured in two-vehicle crash in Greenport
A Hudson man was killed and a Schenectady County woman is in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash in Greenport.
Troopers were dispatched to Route 23 by Ponderosa Drive at about 5:45 p.m. for a report of two vehicles fully engulfed in fire.
Two Good Samaritans and a Greenport volunteer firefighter helped rescue Michelle J. Burnham, 59, of Delanson, from her burning 2003 Hyundai Elantra. She was turned her over to Greenport Rescue for medical care and transported to Albany Medical Center in critical condition.
The other vehicle in the crash was a 2011 Toyota Tacoma driven by 57-year-old David Warfield. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
An investigation determined that Warfield was traveling east on Route 23 in the westbound lane passing multiple vehicles. Warfield then struck Burnham in the eastbound lane while attempting to avoid an uninvolved westbound vehicle.
This investigation is ongoing.
