People rallied in Albany to push for safer roads for pedestrians.

It comes on the heels of several deadly pedestrian crashes in the last week.

Two people were killed in Colonie, and one person killed in Ballston in a hit-and-run.

People rallied at Academy Park earlier Friday, as part of World Remembrance Day for Road Traffic Victims, which is Sunday.

This event was already planned before the three deadly crashes in the Capital Region this week.

Four people died in pedestrian crashes in Albany in 2022.

The local pedestrian safety groups organizing this rally have several demands.

One of those is to lower the city of Albany speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph.

They also want the city to increase traffic enforcement and beef up the Albany Police Department traffic patrol.

Data shows crashes are down, but because of speeding and an increase in reckless driving, the number of deadly crashes is up, they said.

Officials from the city and the police department also showed up at the rally to express their support for several proposals those organizers made.
