Two Romanian citizens are accused of using a skimming device to steal credit card information from stores in the Capital Region.

State Police received information on Nov. 8 that a card reader had been placed over a legitimate card reader at the Family Dollar in Warrensburg to steal information. The investigation determined that two men had placed the skimmer the previous day at around 5 p.m.

With the help of the New York State Intelligence Center (NYSIC) and the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, State Police identified the suspects as Laurentiu Urziceanu and Christian A. Sima.

They allegedly entered the store together and while one person distracted an employee, the other person placed the skimmer device, police said. 

The two are also accused of putting a card skimmer at the Family Dollar in Corinth. Investigators questioned the two suspects in that store and found the skimming device. 

Both were arrested. Urziceanu also allegedly had a forged identifying document.

They were arraigned at Corinth Town Court and released under the supervision of the Saratoga County Probation Department. Both were also issued an appearance ticket and are due in Warrensburg Town Court on Nov. 29. 

They were each charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a skimmer device.
