Greene County starts animal abuse registry

Greene County now has an animal abuse registry.

The legislature passed the local law Wednesday night.

The law prevents anyone convicted of animal abuse from owning or living with animals for 15 years.

Offenders will be added to a registry operated by the sheriff’s department and can be viewed online.

Anyone transferring ownership of an animal in the county will be required to check the registry first.
