Person in critical condition after crashing into tractor-trailer

A person is critical condition after their vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer on Thursday.

State Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash around 2:15 p.m. on State Route 22A in Hampton. The investigation determined that a commercial vehicle was backing into a driveway at the location. The driver of a northbound passenger vehicle did not see it and struck the driver’s side of the tractor-trailer, police said.

The driver was transported to Rutland Hospital and eventually transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center with serious injuries. The person is in critical but stable condition.

The commercial driver was evaluated on scene and refused further medical treatment.
